Jim Scores with a Big December Red

Jim Basara and company were fishing with me this December 27th in the Everglades and caught this very respectable Rogers River redfish.   The fish measured nearly 30 inches and weighed about 10 pounds.  Very fat for a winter redfish.  Jim caught this on cut ladyfish using a spinner loaded with 12 lb line.  We caught several more redfish closer to Everglades City that were approaching the upper limit of 27 inches but most were released.  However, Jim and company went home with a very nice bag limit.

Great November Days

Well, no time to sit down and write my fishing reports.  Too busy fishing!  Tom and friends got these in the Everglades near Lostmans River.  The largest snook were caught on Storm Swim Shads in about 4 feet of water.  The snook made a dash for the motor but Tom saved the day by dipping his rod in the water to push the line away from the boat.

Charlie and Ron's Reds

Another good day for redfish fishing.  Charlie and Ron from Naples scored with two beautiful 24 inch redfish.  Both were caught on cut mullet on a jig with a popping cork.  Not much traffic out there but, that is the way it is in the Everglades.  Hardly any boat traffic.  Three boats makes for a traffic jam.   We spent much of the day enjoying the beauty of the backcountry of the Everglades in the back bays and winding rivers.  There sure were a lot of gators in my honey holes.

Some More Redfish

We fished hard today and redfish was the fish of the day.  It's that time of the year when redfish storm the Everglades in size and numbers.  Joe, JJ, and Warren from Charlotte limited out on large redfish.  The two redfish in the photos measured 27 inches and 28 inches.   One was caught on a shrimp and the other on a piece of cut mullet.  All of our keeper reds measured between 25 and 27 inches.  Several more keepers were caught and released.

Just Another Redfish Day

The weather was perfect this day.  Calm seas, a mild breeze, and cool temperatures.  Vito and his friends got into some redfish.  Here is Vito with a nice 24 inch redfish.  He caught several of these using a jig, a piece of shrimp on a popping cork.  His angler buddy, Tom, got into much larger redfish but all got off.  Fall is the time of year in the Everglades to tangle with over the slot redfish.  We also tangled with some snook but they were not in the slot limit.

Lee Manner Strikes Again

Once again Lee Manner came back to the Everglades to catch fish, and catch fish he did. He caught a nice 25 inch red while fishing with me in the Bights. Lee caught this one on a shrimp with a popping cork at low tide. It was the first cool front of the fall and the temperature was perfect. Several more reds of this size were boated this day.

Ryan Scores with a Nice Snook

It was a tough day of fishing with super low tides but Ryan managed to score with a 28 inch snook! It was his first snook. The snook was released. Ryan also got his first redfish and first trout, all legal fish. An Everglades "swamp slam". Congrats to Ryan. Several more snook were boated and releases this day.

Kevin Kelly's Everglades Red

Angler Kevin Kelly and I were fishing in the south part of Everglades National Park when this 30 inch redfish slammed a Reflecto spoon. Kevin almost lost it on a submerged stump but his skills got him around it and he landed it in about 2 minutes. Not bad for 10 lbs. line. Good weather and calm seas played a part. Oh, yea, he also got a nice over size limit snook too.
